Do you ever feel that life has you by the throat; leaving very
little breathing room or desire to keep moving forward? I've felt this
way numerous of times and became well-versed in blaming others for my
unhappiness and misery. But once I realized the danger in holding others
responsible for my own life's happiness, I began shifting my mindset
into a different gear.
I knew I had to start by ridding myself of all the clutter and distractions that would take my focus off of living my best life possible. To take hold of my happiness, I first had to realize that happiness and worry-free living had very little do with others and more so to do with me! Do I chose to be a happy person, or do I base my happiness on what others have done to me? Those little misunderstandings or petty arguments can really take your energy away and before you know it, you are in a muddy slump without realizing how you had gotten there. It's easier to immediately forgive the person(s) and move on, rather than spending several days or months pondering over how you should have responded or how the situation could have been avoided. Secondly, I had to evaluate exactly how much authority I was allowing other people to have in my life. Opinions are great and there are people that you truly admire and respect, but handing over the reins of my life to another is scary just in thought! The issue is that if you haven't taken charge of your life and what happens in it, you subconsciously allow other people to step in and takeover. What a way wreak havoc on your happiness! And finally, I had to look at my thought life and patterns. What am I giving thought to on a daily basis? What type of relationships am I advertising for? What activities am I involved in that may possibly leave me drained and discouraged or vibrant and encouraged? In answering these questions, I found the sole reason for my unhappy and worry-filled life: Me!
In helping myself, I had to learn to direct my focus and energy towards activities that fosters happiness and well-being. The best advice I've ever heard is to get your mind off of yourself and on helping others. Volunteering in the community is a great way to get your mind on helping other people. And through helping others, you are also learning how to direct bad energy out and welcome good energy in.
Living a happy and worry-free life has always been at your fingertips. It's just waiting for you to seize it and take ownership. You've said no long enough and now it's time to welcome it in and begin to live happily ever after. Answer the call to happiness and worry-free living by saying "yes".
