Lessons To Learn From Shackleton Leadership Program

By Cecile Ingram

The teachings from Shackleton leadership program are very fundamental in ensuring that the leaders are effective in their leadership. Some of these teachings include the following. Leaders are expected to put the plight their people first. A leader who does not consider the plight of his subject is not good for leadership position. Looking at their plight also includes looking at their security and offering them with appropriate protection.

The other lesson is to be flexible in tactics. A leader must be a flexible person. We live in a dynamic world were things keep on changing. The leader must also be flexible in tactics as he is exercising his authority. If there is a change which is beneficial to the people you are leading, it is important that you be flexible to the change.

It is important that a leader chooses his people carefully. Before delegating duty, you must ensure that the person you are delegating the duty to, is competent to carry out the duty. They must also be people of positive attitude. This is because they will be representing you while doing their duties. Any mistakes they make will be blamed on you and any success they achieve you will be credited for. It is therefore important that you choose them carefully and wisely.

When there is difficulty, already must be ready to maintain the face of optimistic. It is the leader who needs to give people some hope. If as a leader you look worried of the situations at hand, then most likely the people you are leading will feel demoralized and there are likely to lose hope. It is important to always give you subjects hope in all they are doing. If things are difficult, it is the leader who people are running to give directions and consolation.

Leading by example is also important. A leader needs to show good example to his people. This enables them to have the moral authority to direct their leaders on what to do. A leader must live a rightful life which is showing good example to the people. A leader must also be hard working. Through hard work, you will be able to achieve greater heights in whatever you do.

A leader must also be ready to treat people with equality. All the people should be subjected to the same standards and same laws. If one has done a mistake, he should be punished the same ways another person having done the same thing would be treated.

It is also good to first give warnings to your subjects whenever they do mistakes. The second time when they repeat the mistake they should be liable for punishment. This should cut across irrespective of the position they hold in the society. Promoting equal treatment off everybody ensures that the authority is exercised effectively.

A leader must also be realistic with all his subject. Though it is good to be optimistic, the optimism must be realistic and achievable. This will make people to believe in you. These are some of the lessons to learn from Shackleton leadership program. This will make the leader to be effective in his leadership.
