All About Virginia Concrete Sealers

By Rhea Solomon

There is so much information on Virginia concrete, residents of the area need to know. Most DIY people have problems with sealers they use. In some cases, they blame this on quality and brand of the material and other times they blame their inexperience. With that said, most problems, despite the type of solvent used can be identified and fixed with ease. This article highlights some of problems and their solutions.

The appearance of bubbles during the application process implies over application. It will be essential to only apply a thin coat on the surface in order to avoid this problem. This will allow for an easy flow of air through the material. The recommended thickness should range from 2-5 mils. In most situations, it is hard for an individual to achieve this due to inexperience. The thickness should be compared to a sheet of paper.

The bubbling effect could also be as a result of coat application during a hot weather or exposure of the concrete surface to direct heat of the sun. With these conditions, the sealer will tend to sink over before the solvent can begin to evaporate. As time passes, the evaporating solvent creates bubbles on the sealer surface thus creating a bad look.

When the sealer turns out or starts to flake out, then there is a problem. This may imply that the surface of concrete is either wet or it is still wet and has some bleed water. Therefore, when water is present, the sealer will not stick to the concrete but will float on the water film thus creating the effect. The other reason may be that the coat is thick. Buildup of coats over time will cause trapping of moisture hence detaching it from the surface.

When this happens, the sealer actually does not turn white but the surface will appear to be this way due to trapped air and moisture. It this is not fixed, the materials flakes out. The best solution to this problem is to simply follow guidelines and instruction from the manufacturer regarding the rate of coverage, preparation of surface and number of coats to be applied.

There are two main types of sealers used. These are the solvent based and the water base. They usually have different characteristics which make them unique in their own way. For instance, the water based kind is normally complicated, and can be affected by humidity and temperature. It usually results to a powdery feel since they form particles that do not bind. However, the solvent type is usually the best and evaporates faster during humid temperatures.

In a nut shell, a good sealer will be able to make the concrete surface appear stronger, impenetrable and also attractive. This solvent has been used successfully from time to time in various projects especially those of building and construction.

The above is essential information on Virginia concrete sealers, residents of the area need to know. Commonly, these are applied by professionals as the final construction step before a project can be declared as finished. The sealers are vital construction tools any individual could use.
