Most of the students entering college like you have a desire to be popular somehow. You want everyone to know them and like them. The first year is very important because it will determine what type of student you will be. As college students build relationships with other college students and professors, they will become more well known on campus. Becoming well know is only half the battle, the other half is leaving others with a positive impression after meeting you. Trust me you can NOT even think of getting popular by drinking and smoking weed. You don't have to be a 'bad guy' in order to be popular, you have to earn respect for yourself.
BE FRIENDLY: You must be polite with every single student! If you want to become popular at college and want people to be nice to you, you can not afford to be harsh with them no matter who they are. One bad impression can ruin everything for you. People are naturally attracted to others who smile a lot and are positive, so no matter how down you get try to smile at others and greet them. Always be positive since people always like an optimistic personality. Never talk bad about the people EVER! even if they are not present as they will not appreciate hearing about it from someone else. Listen and Talk to people and help them out if they have ANY kind of problems.
Another thing you can do is to simply go out there and socialize with people. If it's your first time talking to that person, don't make the topic something personal. Try to stick to a general topic. This helps you get to know the other person easily and connect some bridges by sharing with each other you have something in common. As you get to know the person better, they'll introduce you to their other friends and your circle of friends will increase.Another thing about popular people is that they aren't greedy. They will help people when they see someone in need. The really popular people will even sacrifice their own time to help others out. They are very selfless and do whatever they can. You can go out and start helping out in your school or community. People will start noticing you and will come up and talk to you.
Popular kids don't try to make up a fake attitude so that they can get people to like them. This might work for a little bit, but people will notice the others' true self and stay away from them. If people don't like you for who you are, then there's no reason to be friends with them. You'll most likely not talk to them again.There are many things people want to be, including being popular. But if you're not yourself, you'll never be able to achieve your goals. Try hard, but be yourself in the process.
